The Challenge:
Original OEM under designed the gear and pinion set and approached NCP to review and investigate why the girth gear was failing within a very short period of time.
The Solutions:
NCP gathered the necessary technical detail from measurements of components on site and completed the full design review of the gear set.
Our investigations showed that the girth gear and pinion did not meet the necessary AGMA requirements and thus a new interchangeable design was developed with the same mill speed but with higher AGMA ratings.
The Result:
NCP successfully supplied the up-rated girth gear which only required a wider girth gear guard to accommodate the new face width.
The new girth gear was installed upon delivery and has been running with no problems since.
