The Challenge:
NCP undertook a challenging project to refurbish critical equipment. We focused on three 32’Ø x 15′, 7400kW SAG mills. Two mills required refurbishing multiple components, while the rest were allocated to specialized fabricators worldwide. For the third mill, we addressed high-risk components like trunnion bearings, trunnions, and the barring drive. Liberia’s extreme weather, with heavy rainfall reaching 1000-2500mm during the rainy season, posed a major obstacle. We also discovered that one of the mills, supplied by another OEM, didn’t meet international standards, necessitating upgrades. Isolation, disease risks, safety protocols, and global component integration added complexity.
The Solutions:
NCP tackled this challenge with a meticulously planned strategy. Our tooling, accommodations, equipment, and team leadership were meticulously considered. We conducted Finite Element Analyses (FEA) and design reviews, ensuring international standards compliance. Team leaders played a key role in maintaining camaraderie, especially amid disease safety measures.
The Result:
Our dedication paid off. We met all scope requirements, elevating mills to international standards and installing fully integrated control systems. Our commitment to safety earned multiple awards from the end user, solidifying our reputation. We’re now positioned to provide long-term support, including spares and supervision for mill installation. This project exemplifies our commitment to growth, experience, and overcoming challenges. Our gratitude goes to our project teams, on-site leaders, stakeholders, and the end user. We eagerly anticipate successful mill operations and continued growth in our relationships.
